Principal's Corner
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope this month’s Carson High School Parent Newsletter finds you and your family in good health.
We had a very successful “Back to School Night” on October 16, 2008.I hope you were able to attend and visit your son/daughter’s teachers. If you were not able to pick up your child’s progress report card that evening, he/she should have brought it home the next day. If you have still not received it, please contact your child’s counselor at (310) 847-6012. Ten (10)- week report cards will be printed and mailed home around Thanksgiving time, so please be expecting those.
This morning, October 29, 2008, there was a very serious car accident on 223rd Street in front of school at 7:15 a.m. Fortunately, no one was injured! We are currently waiting for the City of Carson to post signs and paint the curb to extend the drop-off area in front of school to the full block on 223rd Street during morning traffic and dismissal. The traffic signal at 225th Street and Main St. has been approved by the Carson City Council and is waiting to go out to bid. We are moving the drop-off and pick-up point for our Special Education busses to Dolores Street in order to cut down on the congestion at 223rd and Main. The LAUSD Office of Environmental Health and Safety will also be conducting a follow-up study as a result of the accident. What can you do to help? We still have too many drivers that allow students to exit their cars in traffic, and cross a lane of traffic, to get to the sidewalk. This is a safety hazard as well as a citable offense. Please make sure you pull over to the curb before allowing students to exit your car. Other than that, the best thing you can do is to make sure your son/daughter arrives at school between 7:15 – 7:30 AM. This will cut down on the congestion and cut down on the number of students tardy to the first period of the day. We are still averaging 150 students that arrive late, so please push your students to get here earlier.
As always, if you have any questions, please call me at (310) 847-6003.
Sincerely
Ken Keener, Principal
